Have you ever woken up from a dream that left your spirit uneasy? Not every dream comes from God. Some are spiritual warnings or attacks from the enemy, but by the grace of God, you are able to see them before they unfold.
The Bible makes it clear that dreams can reveal divine messages or demonic plots (Job 33:14–18). That’s why discerning and responding to some of your dreams through prayer and fasting is essential for every believer.
In Scripture, God often used dreams to warn His people, just as He did with Joseph in Matthew 2:13, instructing him to flee with baby Jesus from Herod’s deadly plan. Likewise, the enemy uses dreams to plant attacks that can have life-changing consequences (Matthew 13:25).
Why prayer and fasting? Because it is a powerful spiritual weapon that can reverse not only the enemy’s plans but also God’s decrees. In Jonah 1:2, God declared that the sins of Nineveh had come up before Him, and His message through Jonah was clear, judgment was coming.
When the king and the people heard Jonah’s warning, they believed God, proclaimed a fast, and turned from their violence and sin (Jonah 3:5–8). Scripture records:
“And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that He had said that He would do unto them; and He did it not.” — Jonah 3:10
Moreover, King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream of a great tree cut down, leaving only the stump. The tree represented his pride and kingdom. Daniel realized the dream was a warning of judgment and pleaded with the king to humble himself so the dream’s judgment could be reversed (Daniel 4:27). Nebuchadnezzar ignored the warning, and a year later the prophecy was fulfilled exactly as Daniel said.
From my experience and conversations with many people, I have discovered five types of dangerous dreams you must never ignore and how to cancel them through the authority of Jesus Christ.
⚰️ 1. Dreaming of the Dead: A Subtle but Dangerous Deception
God has made it very clear in His Word that the living have no business with the dead. This truth can be difficult for some people to accept, especially when they are visited by deceased loved ones in dreams. Many assume that such encounters are harmless or even comforting, but that is precisely how the enemy deceives.
The devil often uses familiar spirits that imitate the likeness of those who have passed away to forge evil covenants. When a covenant is formed with the dead, it opens the door for destruction, delay, and spiritual bondage in your life.
⚠️ The Spiritual Trap Behind Dreams of the Dead
Dreams involving the dead are particularly common during seasons of prayer and repentance, when the enemy is fighting to maintain his hold over your life through ungodly agreements. These dreams may appear peaceful, but their consequences are spiritually severe.
In some cases, interacting with the dead in a dream leads to spiritual contamination, even manifesting as illnesses similar to the cause of death of the deceased. Such dreams are not harmless memories, they are demonic manipulations meant to establish spiritual covenants that drain your strength, joy, and finances.
💬 My Personal Experience
I remember a season when I was struggling with debt. During that time, I repeatedly dreamt of a deceased close friend, sometimes asking me to lend her money, and other times giving me money. Because we had been close in life, and she often supported me financially just like I did. I initially dismissed these dreams as sentimental reflections of our friendship.
But soon, I noticed a disturbing pattern. These dreams always occurred at the beginning of the month or just before my salary was due. Despite having a good job and a steady income, I couldn’t save anything. Unexpected expenses constantly arose, my car would break down, or something in my home would suddenly need urgent repair.
Another person once told me about dreaming of her deceased husband taking money from the cash box of a shop she continued to run after his passing. Within five months of that dream, the business collapsed under heavy debts. I’ve also heard of people who dreamt of deceased loved ones and later developed the same illness that caused their death.
The pattern is consistent: these dreams must never be ignored. The Bible says, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3). Agreement with the dead, knowingly or unknowingly – creates spiritual bondage that must be broken through prayer and fasting.
🙏 The Biblical Response
Some people claim to have received help, guidance, or even material blessings like winning a lottery through dreams involving the dead. Others say they were given solutions to difficult problems by their deceased relatives. However, I stand firmly on the authority of Scripture: any interaction with the dead must be rejected and reversed through prayer and fasting.
Deuteronomy 18:10–12 clearly warns against consulting the dead or engaging with familiar spirits, calling such practices detestable before God. No matter how kind, peaceful, or helpful the deceased may appear, remember this: the enemy often disguises himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14).
✝️ How to Cancel Dreams Involving the Dead
If you ever experience such dreams:
- Wake up and immediately renounce the dream. Say aloud that you reject any agreement made in the dream, knowingly or unknowingly.
- Pray and fast to break every evil covenant and destroy any demonic connection that was attempted.
- Plead the blood of Jesus over your mind, spirit, and finances.
- Declare restoration of anything stolen through such dreams, for God’s Word says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)
Dreams of the dead are not to be taken lightly. They are often spiritual warnings that require immediate action. Reject them, renounce them, and reaffirm your covenant with the living God through prayer, fasting, and faith in Jesus Christ.
🐍 2. Bitten by a Snake: A Serious Spiritual Warning
It is important to first understand what a snake represents according to the Bible. In Genesis 3:1, it is written, “Now the serpent was craftier than any other beast of the field that the LORD God had made.” While Genesis does not directly name the serpent as “Satan,” later revelation clarifies this connection.
In Revelation 12:9, Scripture states:
“And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world.”
This verse confirms that the serpent symbolizes the devil himself—a deceiver, manipulator, and destroyer.
In the physical realm, snake bites are poisonous and can lead to death or permanent injury. Spiritually, being bitten by a snake in a dream represents a direct attack from the enemy, carrying dangerous consequences that often manifest quickly if not confronted in prayer.
⚠️ The Reality of Snake-Bite Dreams
The dream of a snake bite is rare, but when it happens, the results are often immediate and severe. Personally, I have never had such a dream, but I have counselled several people who did.
I vividly recall a lady who dreamt of a snake biting her right palm. Just a few days later, the same spot began to itch uncontrollably. The skin started to darken, and eventually, a wound developed. The condition worsened to the point where she could no longer use her right hand. She had to stop working and began visiting different specialists, each giving a different diagnosis.
When I met her, the smell from the wound was unbearable. I asked her how it started, and she explained that she suspected it was a side effect from a vaccination she had taken in 2022. She also mentioned that she initially thought it was witchcraft from her co-wife, because she once dreamt of a snake biting her. But after hearing about the side effects of the vaccine, she shifted her belief, thinking it was the cause. This could have been true if there were no dreams.
However, I knew the dream was the true key. She told me about other dreams she had been experiencing, and I realized this was a spiritual attack disguised as something physical.
Through repentance, prayer, and fasting, her hand was miraculously restored one year later.
🙏 What To Do When You Dream of a Snake Bite
As far as I am concerned, there is no one who has been bitten by a snake in a dream and remained the same without prayer. Such dreams are not to be taken lightly.
If you ever experience this kind of dream, act immediately:
- Repent before God for any open doors the enemy may have used.
- Fast and pray for spiritual cleansing and divine protection.
- Renounce and reject the effects of the dream in the name of Jesus Christ.
- Declare healing and restoration over every area of your life that may have been affected.
The Lord is faithful to deliver those who call upon His name. Take this dream seriously, and the God who restores will hear your prayers and heal your life.
⚔️ 3. Fighting Someone in a Dream: A Sign of Spiritual Warfare
Whenever someone close to you makes declarations on evil altars and attempts to summon your spirit, it will always be met with resistance in the spiritual realm. When this happens, most people, Christian or not, will often have dreams of fighting with the person summoning them. Whether your spirit yields or resists depends entirely on the strength of your prayer life.
It is important to understand that while our bodies grow and develop through food intake, our spirits grow through time spent in the Word of God. Spiritual maturity and discernment are the results of consistent prayer, fasting, and study of Scripture.
Many people have told me that the devil sometimes uses the faces of loved ones to sow confusion and disunity. This is possible especially if the dream occurs once or twice, but when it happens repeatedly, you must take it seriously. I know how it can be deeply confusing to find yourself fighting someone who appears to love and care for you in real life. However, this is exactly how deceptive the devil is. The power of witchcraft lies in secrecy and manipulation, so do not be deceived. Jesus Himself said, “A man’s enemies will be members of his own household.” (Matthew 10:36)
In my own experience, I deeply loved one of my younger siblings. When he was jobless, I supported him and his family in every way I could. I would spontaneously walk into the supermarket and buy groceries for a whole month and just surprise his family. When things got difficult for him, we applied for scholarships together, and I personally handled much of the process to ensure everything went smoothly. The goal was for him to leave and change location in expectation that things would change. I even promised to take care of his family if he got the opportunity to travel abroad until he became stable.
However, things took a turn. He eventually got a job, and I lost mine. Not long after, I started having dreams where I was fighting him. This confused me deeply because he was a devoted member of a church, and we still spoke well, although I could sense growing pride. Because of the dreams and his behaviour, I decided to research his church online and discovered that many others had expressed similar concerns about it, it originates in West Africa.
At the time, I did not know how to handle the situation. One day, while still unemployed, I called him to discuss these attacks. His response was harsh and defensive. He warned me never to speak against his church and his “man of God.” His tone was bitter, and I noticed that his profile pictures and social media status updates were always about his pastor.
Years later, during my season of self-deliverance, I realized that the altar connected to his church was a strong spiritual resistance against me. Thank God that through prayer and fasting, the Lord gave me victory, and that battle became history. Looking back, I know that God had shown me the warning earlier in my dreams, but I ignored it until I lost my job.
🙏 Spiritual Lessons
Over the years, I have met countless people who have had similar dreams. Most interpret them as the devil using the faces of their siblings, spouses, relatives, or best friends to create disunity. While that may sometimes be true, you must never ignore repeated dreams of fighting someone. They are often indicators of spiritual conflict initiated through witchcraft or evil altars.
When this happens to you, may the Lord open your eyes to discern the truth. Do not react in anger or fear. Handle it with prayer. Ask God to expose every hidden work of darkness and to strengthen your spirit through His Word.
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” — Ephesians 6:12
👞 4. Losing Shoes in a Dream: A Sign of Destiny Exchange
Shoes physically protect our feet and make it possible to walk comfortably. A journey without shoes is often painful and difficult. In the spiritual realm, however, shoes carry a much deeper meaning that goes beyond physical protection.
In the Bible, loosening or giving away a shoe had legal significance, symbolizing the transfer or renunciation of a right, claim, or responsibility.
In Ruth 4:7–8, Scripture says:
“Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning redeeming and exchanging: to confirm a transaction, one drew off his sandal and gave it to the other. So the redeemer said to Boaz, ‘Buy it for yourself,’ and he drew off his sandal.”
This ancient act represented a public confirmation of a covenant or transaction, a visible declaration of surrendering one’s rights. Spiritually, losing shoes in a dream carries the same symbolism, it represents a loss of spiritual authority, destiny, or covenant protection.
⚠️ The Hidden Meaning of Losing Shoes in a Dream
Losing one or both shoes is a common dream, but it’s often dismissed or lightly prayed over. The truth is, such dreams can carry long-term and painful consequences if not dealt with spiritually.
Dreaming of losing shoes implies that someone is attempting to exchange your destiny. When this kind of exchange succeeds, the person behind it often experiences an immediate and noticeable improvement in their life. Their finances, influence, and comfort may increase dramatically, while you begin to experience decline, frustration, and hardship.
You might find yourself working harder than ever but achieving very little, constantly struggling to make ends meet, or losing motivation for things that once brought you joy. Rest and peace seem far away, and life begins to feel heavy and joyless. From my experience and from listening to others, what follows is often a state of deep emotional weariness or even depression.
Meanwhile, the person who orchestrated the exchange usually maintains contact with you, often behaving with pride or false affection. To renew the covenant, they may occasionally buy you a small gift, take you out for lunch, or offer minor acts of kindness. However, they rarely give you anything of real value—it’s always small amounts, the least denominations, because their goal is to maintain the spiritual link that empowers their prosperity at your expense.
🙏 How to Break Free From a Destiny Exchange
This spiritual manipulation can be stopped the very moment you dream of losing your shoes. Do not ignore it. When you wake up:
- Fast and pray immediately, asking God to reveal the source of the attack.
- Repent and renounce every evil covenant or exchange that may have taken place through the dream.
- Reject the dream out loud, declaring that your destiny is sealed in the blood of Jesus Christ.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you concerning the people in your life, revealing who should or should not be close to you.
Destiny exchanges are often carried out by people within your own household or close circle. This is why discernment is crucial. The Lord promises to restore all that has been stolen from you when you seek Him in sincerity and truth.
“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten.” – Joel 2:25
5.💰When Thieves Appear in Your Dreams: A Direct Attack on Your Finances
Key Scripture: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” – John 10:10
It does not matter what form the thief or thieves take in your dream. It is the devil himself. The Bible clearly says in John 10:10, “The thief (the devil) comes only to steal and kill and destroy.”
These dreams often target your finances, progress, and success. The most common pattern is losing your wallet, money, or bag and being unable to catch the thief. The goal is to cripple your financial stability.
My Experience: From Loss to Recovery Through Fasting and Prayer
I experienced this personally. I was already in debt, and before receiving my annual bonus and double salary in November that I hoped would bring relief, I dreamt of a childhood friend aggressively stealing 20 dollars from my pocket. I chased him but could not catch up. Although I knew the consequences of such attacks, I did not pray immediately. Because I was very disappointed, my finances soon spiralled downward.
Later, out of desperation, I fasted through December. Ten days into the fast, I dreamt again of someone stealing money from my pocket while I was in a congested market. This time I chased him, and someone caught him before I reached him. I recovered my money. Approximately three months later, I began to be involved in several projects, and my finances started to improve without any major lifestyle changes.
🙏 What To Do After Such Dreams
When you experience dreams of theft, do not fear and do not sink into disappointment as I did. Instead, repent, renounce, and denounce the dream in the name of Jesus. Prayer and fasting can reverse every spiritual robbery and restore what the enemy has stolen.
🙏 Conclusion
Dreams are more than mere images of the night; they are spiritual messages. God uses them to warn and guide, while the enemy uses them to deceive and destroy.
Whenever you experience any of these dangerous dreams – dreaming of the dead, being robbed, bitten by a snake, fighting someone, or losing shoes, take action immediately.
Through prayer and fasting, you can cancel demonic dreams before they manifest, reverse evil covenants, and walk in the victory Jesus Christ purchased for you.
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.” – 2 Corinthians 10:4
